This is the first Guangdong-Hong Kong joint law firm in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, where Hong Kong lawyer Chen Peiyu has officially started work and is discussing a cross-border case with colleagues. In the past, the mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao adopted different legal systems, and Hong Kong-Macao lawyers could not handle mainland legal affairs. In 2020, the state introduced policies to pilot the work of allowing Hong Kong-Macao lawyers to obtain mainland practice qualifications and engage in legal practice in the nine mainland cities of the Greater Bay Area. In February this year, Chen Peiyu obtained a Greater Bay Area lawyer certificate, becoming one of the more than 200 lawyers licensed in the nine Greater Bay Area cities.

"Our joint law firm has mainland lawyers, Hong Kong lawyers, and Hong Kong barristers—all colleagues and family," said Lawyer Chen Peiyu. "This allows us to handle cases at a lower cost. Guangzhou clients don't need to go to Hong Kong, yet we can still deliver efficient legal services."
